On June 26, 2026, the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley had the privilege of welcoming Olympian Queen Harrison Claye in partnership with LA28 Day of Sport, the organization preparing Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Mrs. Claye, a Richmond, Virginia native, was the first track-and-field athlete from Virginia Tech to compete in the Olympics. In 2010, she became the first woman to win both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, demonstrating her dedication, resilience, and determination.
While her achievements are deeply inspiring and impressive, Mrs. Claye’s openness in sharing her journey had the greatest impact on our youth members. Youth asked thoughtful questions, joined games and friendly competitions, and learned firsthand about the discipline, perseverance, and mindset needed to reach their goals. The day ended with autographs and Gold Medal awards presented by Mrs. Claye, and lasting memories for our members.

At the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley, we believe that connecting young people with accomplished leaders and mentors helps them envision new possibilities for their futures. Partnerships like LA28 give our members opportunities to learn from outstanding role models who encourage them to dream bigger, overcome challenges, and believe in their potential. This is a continuation of a track record we're incredibly proud of: partnering with elite athletes, mentors, and role models who show our young people that their goals are within reach.

We thank LA28 and Queen Harrison Claye for investing in our youth and helping create this enriching experience that will have a lasting impact on our Club.
