Kindness Chain

Come up with ways to show kindness to others that you can do from your home.

Wednesday, July 15

There are lots of ways to show kindness. We can share kind words, kind actions, kind thoughts, and more. You may be spending a lot of time in your homes right now and not getting to see all of the people you care about, but you can still share kindness with others. In this challenge, you will come up with ways to show kindness to others that you can do from your home.

This activity is for ages 6-10, but anyone can join.

Supplies:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape or a stapler
  • A writing utensil

The Challenge:

Today’s challenge is to come up with as many ways as you can to show kindness to others. Cut up a piece of paper into 5 strips. On each piece of paper, write one way you can show kindness to someone. Tape or staple your pieces of paper together to form a chain. Then, try to do all 5 of the ideas you came up with. Here are some ideas:

  • Do a chore for someone
  • Tell a joke Leave a nice note for someone to find
  • Tell someone how much you love them
  • Wave to someone
  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth to save water
  • Help make dinner
  • Clean up your room
  • Teach someone something new
  • Make a homemade gift for someone

Hang your chain in an area that you can see. Try to do add a few rings to your chain every day. Each time you add a ring, do the kindness act that you came up with.

Extensions:

  • Set a goal. Can you get to 15 kindness acts? Can you get to 25?
  • Be kind to yourself. What nice things can you say and do for yourself? Add a ring to your chain for each act of kindness that you show yourself.
  • Do the same kindness acts with as many people as you can think of. For example, send emails to all the people that you appreciate. Tell each of them why you care about them.
