Monday, August 17

Play a game of sudoku! Sudoku is a Japanese puzzle game where the player uses numbers or symbols to fill in the empty boxes in the puzzle. The rules are easy to learn, and the puzzles can range from easy to hard. In this activity you can learn how to play and challenge yourself to a game of Sudoku!

This activity is for all ages.

Supplies:

  • Computer, tablet, or smart phone
  • Internet access

The Challenge:

Step 1: Learn the Rules

  • In a 9 x 9 sudoku puzzle, there are 9 rows, which go left to right, and 9 columns, which go up and down. These rows and columns make up 9 main squares (3 going across the top, 3 going across the middle, and three going across the bottom)- these are outlined in the bold lines in the sample above.
  • The numbers 1-9 will be used to fill in the blank spaces, and the player will use the existing numbers to figure out what numbers go in the blank spaces.
  • The numbers 1-9 cannot be used twice in the same row, or the same column, or in the same box.
